1. Get Professional Plans 

When you're planning to build a new house or extension, the first (and arguably most important) step is to make sure that your plans are professionally drawn up. This may seem like an obvious step, but it's one that's often overlooked. Your plans need to be clear and concise, and a qualified architect or drafting technician should draw them up. If your plans are not up to scratch, there's a very good chance that the building certifier will reject them.

2. Do Your Research

Before you submit your application to a building certifier, it is important to research and familiarise yourself with the relevant regulations. This will help ensure that your plans comply with all requirements. The building certifier will assess your plans against the Building Code of Australia. They will also take into account any specific requirements of your local council. It is also a good idea to speak to other people who have had their plans approved to get an idea of the process.
